MiNd GaMES

MiNd GaMES explores the tensions and overlaps between tradition and modernity, visibility and concealment, East and West. Drawing on Najm’s background in psychology and her experience navigating cultural dualities, this series investigates how internalized norms shape perception, memory, and power.

Using the zipper as a recurring metaphor—an everyday object that opens, closes, conceals, and reveals—Najm interrogates the layered nature of identity. Through oil paintings, mixed media collages, and sculptural wall pieces, the works unfold as visual negotiations between the body and the mind, impulse and control, abstraction and allegory.

Embedded childhood memories—such as glitched zippers, peeri stools, and the patterned surfaces of domestic life—surface in fragmented forms that resist resolution. These motifs are not nostalgic, but catalytic: they mark entry points into deeper conversations around gender, play, and transformation.

Through intuitive mark-making and deliberate disruption, Najm invites viewers to consider what lies between the binary. The series asks: what do we choose to hide, what do we reveal, and what happens in the spaces between?
