A glitch is an error, a defect, a shift in syntax that disrupts the normal functioning of a system—no matter how small, a glitch can cause ripples far beyond its source. The stretched and distorted female figures in the “Glitch(ed)” series of paintings include self-portraits, politicians, activists, and celebrities who, for better or worse, have pushed beyond the boundaries of convention towards visibility and empowerment. The images are digitally sourced, manipulated, and then rendered in intense acrylic and oil colors to heighten the collisions of old and new, the manual and the technological, the deconstructed and the re-imagined, all in one rapidly evolving binary world.
