The Observer of Growth
In What Things are Held, Qinza Najm explores how form is shaped when stability can no longer be assumed. The series extends her ongoing inquiry into shifting systems of space, memory, and relation, and into what can still be held when the ground itself feels provisional. Working on canvas, Najm draws from miniature painting alongside abstraction, building each surface through layering, interruption, and reworking. These processes remain visible, registering adjustment, pressure, and time. Across the series, forms appear suspended, partially anchored, or in transition. Spheres, fragments, and checkered structures hover against unstable ground, where edges break, planes shift, and no fixed center fully settles. Rather than resolving these states, the work holds them in place. Attention becomes a method. Tending becomes structural. What emerges is a visual language in which balance is never given, but continually negotiated.
